Obesity Adult

Condition Description

Obesity is a chronic accumulation of excess body fat. It leads to excessive weight gain, putting you in an unhealthy range. Your weight is expressed in relation to your height. It is called BMI (body mass index). BMI between 18.5-24.9 is the normal range you want to be in.

Common Symptoms

Obesity or weight gain can lead to or coexist with conditions like coronary artery disease, diabetes, hypertension, gout, obstructive sleep apnea, or osteoarthritis. It is important to optimize your weight because in people with obesity, there a significant increase in mortality. It is associated with several health risks, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, low HDL (good cholesterol) and high LDL (bad cholesterol) and coronary heart disease. The higher the body mass index (BMI), the greater the risk of morbidity and mortality.

Underlying Causes

Most important causes include:

  1. Metabolic syndrome /insulin-resistance
  2. Hypothyroidism /hypo-thyroid-is-m
  3. Low female and male hormones in women especially age-related decline in hormones /menopause   /peri-menopause
  4. Low male hormones in men especially age-related decline in male hormones /testosterone-treatment-in-men
  5. Food sensitivity /food-allergies
  6. Nutritional deficiencies
  7. SIFO (Small intestinal fungal overgrowth) /sifo
  8. Mold toxicity/allergy /mycotoxicosis-mold-toxicity
  9. Poor lifestyle
  10. Psychological reasons rarely play a role
  11. Genetics
Traditional Approach

1. Lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, eating healthy, exercises, etc.

2. Psychological Therapy (where applicable)

3.Behavioral Modification

4. Caloric Restriction

5. Drug Therapy for patients with BMI >30 like Semaglutide, Sibutramine, Orlistat, Phentermine has some success but lack long-term efficiency. Moreover, drug use is limited because of cost, coverage issues, and side effects.

6. Surgical Intervention like stomach stapling or intestinal bypass surgery.

EHC Approach

1. Treat The Cause

  • Low carb diet to address Metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome results from high carb intake (sugar, honey, maple syrup, corn syrup, grains and, underground veggies like potato, sweet potato, beets)
  • Assess and treat hypothyroidism with natural thyroid like Armour thyroid.
  • Assess hormonal imbalances in women (female & male hormones) and treat with bio-identical hormones
  • Assess male hormonal deficiency in men and treat it with Bio-identical testosterone

2. Medically supervised program (MSP) for weight loss. It combines lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, diet, exercise and:

  • Sermorelin is a peptide that causes release of Human Growth Hormone from pituitary gland. It is taken as injection or oral tablet. It should not come as a surprise. Insulin is a peptide also which has marked effect on sugar levels. Excess of insulin causes blood sugar to drop and when you do not have enough insulin, it causes type 1 diabetes Similarly there are several other peptides that have a profound effect on many body functions
  • Sublingual vitamins and other nutrients that help in weight loss
  • Low-dose Naltrexone (LDN) tablets: Naltrexone helps reduce feelings of hunger and curbs appetite. It enhances fat burning and assists in weight loss. Naltrexone can also help stimulate the pituitary to release more of your body's natural growth hormone. It also improves mental clarity as it is anti-inflammatory
  • Lipotropic Vitamin cocktail Injection Therapy with nutrients that aid in weight loss once a week in the office.

Here are various nutrients as a part of weight loss program with their functions

SUCCESS STORIES

Before we get to success stories, we must understand clearly what a right way and wrong way is to lose weight. Let us discuss the wrong way first. A patient is tired of his weight gain and one day he feels a burning desire to lose weight. He goes to his physician and demands a weight loss program. What he typically expects that his physician will prescribe him a diet and may be some medication somewhere along the line. No, this is a wrong way. Even if you do strict dieting and even if you take medicines, results will be inadequate and weight loss will not last that long. We do not do that. Please do not ask for that. Instead, you should ask your physician if can find the cause and plan accordingly. If you are not satisfied, seek help of someone who can

How do we manage weight loss program? What we do instead is, treat the cause. This will be obvious to you from these success stories. The causes for your weight gain are likely to be among the causes listed above. After we have looked at those causes and optimally treated the causes, only then we will tackle weight gain. With this strategy, you are likely to lose weight effectively and maintain that for long time. That is success!

Weight gain, fatigue, cold hands, and feet constantly

Initials:

S.K.

Age:

58

Story:

“When I first came to see Dr. Sultan. I was fatigued, had cold hands and feet all the time, taking medications for ADD, significant weight gain. Within a couple of months of seeing Dr. Sultan, he had evaluated all my prior blood work. Prioritized what to focus on and made me aware of things my body was trying to tell me. He observed, assessed, and use lab tests to confirm what he was seeing. I am now on a natural thyroid, have lost twenty-one pounds, have reduced my ADD medication, and am beginning to feel stronger and more alert.” June 2018

Dr. sultan’s comments

This and all other success stories will stress on the point that before resorting to treat obesity, you must treat the underlying causes first. Imagine, if we had started this patient with the traditional approach of diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes, how miserable and disappointed she would have been? Even after harsh dieting she would not have lost that much weight and progress would have gone quickly as soon as she relaxed on the program. See, how easy it is to reach your target when you address the real causes!

No matter what your problems are, to succeed, you must address the cause. In this case, the main cause was Hypothyroidism (low thyroid). The second point is that if you are treating with synthetic thyroid, you are very unlikely to relieve many symptoms like fatigue, morning fatigue, tiredness by end of the day, feeling cold, cold hands, cold feet, dry skin. If you are having any of these symptoms, you are treated adequately.

Remember, to be a winner, no matter what your health problems are, you must treat the cause. Otherwise, you are on a slippery slope, especially if you use medicines to cover up symptoms. On symptomatic treatment you are likely to get worse to a point where recovery may not be possible

Condition Treated:

SIFO (Small intestinal Fungal Overgrowth)

Symptoms:

fatigue, constipation, migraine headaches, weight gain, sensitivity to cold, and irritability

Initials:

L.P.

Age:

45

Story:

"For the past 10 years, I have been treated by a traditional MD for hypothyroidism using synthetic medications. I did receive a little relief from my symptoms, but never felt normal. I still experienced fatigue, constipation, migraine headaches, weight gain, sensitivity to cold, and irritability. My traditional doctor repeatedly told me the only way to treat my symptoms was with a pill. After years of suffering a friend of a friend of mine recommended I see Dr. Sultan and as the last option, I decided to make an initial appointment. That step changed my life. I was so impressed with Dr. Sultan’s methodology and that he spent so much time truly listening to me and reviewing my entire medical history. After the first appointment, we had a 7-point game plan, and he immediately started me on the path of recovery. He explained so many things to me and could tell me why/ what was causing the symptoms I experienced for years. The move from synthetic thyroid medicine to natural thyroid made such a difference in my daily life, but the surprise to me was my diagnosis of SIFO. I had no idea that my gut was responsible for many of my symptoms. After years of being told, a change in diet would not help me, I was astounded in the change when I followed the guidance of Dr. Sultan and eliminated yeast and sugar. My stomach issues went away, and I lost eighteen pounds and have so much more energy. Thank you, Dr. Sultan, for seeing me as a person and working hand in hand with me to give me my life back. I am happier, healthier, and feel I can concentrate/ focus on my life instead of my health issues.” April 2018

Dr. Sultan’s Comments

One pattern you see here is, nobody presents with sole symptom of obesity. There are always other underlying conditions that are associated with weight gain. Remember, obesity is not a disease, but a symptom of some underlying causes mentioned above. Again, I want to emphasize that natural thyroid like Armour Thyroid works much better than synthetic thyroid like levothyroxine. The second point is that SIFO (PLEASE GIVE A LINK HERE TO SIFO LISTED UNDER CONDITIONS WE TREAT??) is yeast overgrowth in the gut from high sugar diet, use of birth control pills, antibiotics) that not only impacts digestive tract and nervous system, changed gut microbiome can also be associated with obesity.

Condition Treated:

Thyroid/ PCOS

Symptoms:

fatigue, anxiety, weight gain

Initials:

C.N.

Story:

“I came in for always being tired, anxiety, and not being able to lose weight. I also had not had a period in about 7 months. The armor thyroid has helped cure my symptoms and my levels are better. I feel 100% better than I did before. I was also diagnosed with PCOS. Learning this helped me change my diet and I have since had three regular periods and have lost weight.” March 2016

Dr. Sultan’s comments

This is again, a case of hypothyroidism. Treating low thyroid, she successfully lost weight. Low thyroid is an important cause of weight gain and often missed because your thyroid tests may be normal. The normal range for thyroid tests is wide. For example, one of the most important tests is TSH. At one lab the normal range is 0.45-4.50. it means that your thyroid levels can swing ten times and still be in the normal range. Therefore, whatever, your thyroid tests are, they may not be normal for you.

If you have typical symptoms of low thyroid like fatigue, morning fatigue, tiredness by end of the day, feeling cold, cold hands, cold feet, dry skin, it is important that you should be evaluated for low thyroid. If your tests come out to be within normal range, do not stop there. Find some physician who is familiar with this phenomenon, to discern if you have low thyroid. If you have already been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and still have not resolved all your symptoms, think about switching to Armour thyroid

Low Thyroid Yeast, magnesium, food allergies, dust and mold sensitivity

Name

M.K. Age: 66

Success Story

“For 40 years I have struggled with sinus infections. Nothing seemed to help. I had seven different ENT’s and allergists over those 40 years. Years of shots, nothing really helped. Five years ago, my symptoms amped up and I was diagnosed with inflammatory osteoarthritis (my 5th autoimmune disease). I now had chronic UTI’s, terrible leg cramps, feeling tired beyond exhaustion, and an inability to lose weight. I was miserable and a friend told me to see Dr. Sultan. We found I had low thyroid, candida yeast, dust and mold allergies, and magnesium deficiency. We began to treat these things and I began to feel better. We then evaluated for food allergies and found that I was positive to all seven of the major food allergies. I am on a strict diet, but I have lost 60 lbs. and I feel better than I have in 10 years! EHAC (Dr. Sultan) has given me back my life! We finally found the cause of all my health issues.”

Dr. Sultan’s comments

Dr. Sultan’s Comments: “Remember, complex problems may have simple solutions.

Einstein stated, “most fundamental ideas of science are essentially very simple and may be expressing language comprehensible to everyone.”

How is it applicable in here? If you want to be winner treat the cause. If you want to be loser, remain content with symptomatic treatments

This patient understood the importance of treating underlying causes. When these were treated effectively, it made a remarkable difference. It is that simple!

The bottom line is-most illnesses are caused by environmental, dietary, nutritional, and hormonal factors. It cannot get simpler than that.” Do not let your loved ones suffer. Find who has significant problems and tell them: “there is nothing better than treating the cause
