Condition Description
Besides cholesterol another form of fatty substance present in blood are triglycerides. Optimum levels are below 150. High triglycerides may also be associated with high cholesterol
Common Symptoms
- Generally there are no symptoms
- High triglyceride levels are found identified through a routine fasting lipid panel
Underlying Causes
- Diets high in carbohydrates, saturated fats and/or hydrogenated oils
- Insulin Resistance
- Hypothyroidism
- Low testosterone
Traditional Approach
- Statins like Pravastatin, Lovastatin, Simvastatin, Atorvastatin, or Rosuvastatin
- Fibric acid derivatives like Fenofibrate or Gemfibrozil
- Niacin supplementation if HDL is low

- Improved diet through lower carbohydrate, saturated fat and hydrogenated oil consumption
- Optimize weight
- Identify and treat any insulin resistance, hypothyroidism, or low testosterone
