Frequent headaches that disrupt your daily life may be more than just stress or fatigue—they could be chronic migraines. Defined as headaches occurring on 15 or more days per month for at least three months, chronic migraines can deeply affect your ability to work, concentrate, and enjoy life. At Environmental Health and Allergy Center in Creve Coeur, MO, Dr. Tipu Sultan, M.D., helps patients uncover the root causes of chronic migraines and develop long-term solutions for relief through a personalized, whole-body approach to care.

Understanding Chronic Migraine

A chronic migraine differs from a typical headache in both its severity and frequency. It often involves throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head, sensitivity to light or sound, nausea, and fatigue. Many patients also experience early warning signs known as “auras,” which may include flashes of light or brief changes in vision. These headaches can last for several hours or even days, so treatment should focus not just on the pain itself but also on the underlying cause that keeps it recurring.

Common Triggers and Underlying Causes

Chronic migraines can be triggered or worsened by a range of factors, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, disrupted sleep, dehydration, or certain food sensitivities. Environmental influences such as weather shifts, strong odors, or bright lighting can also contribute. Before identifying patterns and likely triggers, Dr. Tipu Sultan, M.D., carefully reviews each patient’s medical background, habits, and environment to develop a clear understanding of contributing factors.

A Holistic Approach to Migraine Management

At Environmental Health and Allergy Center in Creve Coeur, migraine treatment centers on addressing the underlying imbalances that make the body more susceptible to pain. Dr. Tipu Sultan, M.D., combines evidence-based medical therapies with supportive methods that enhance overall wellness. These may include targeted nutrition, hydration support, stress-reduction techniques, and individualized care plans designed to strengthen the body’s resilience and restore balance.

Treatment Options for Relief

Depending on the individual, migraine management may involve prescription medications, IV therapy for nutrient replenishment, and strategies to improve sleep, hydration, and immune balance. For some patients, allergy testing or detoxification support may also play a role if environmental sensitivities are contributing to symptoms. By combining these treatments with preventive care, patients often experience fewer migraines and improved energy levels.

Condition Treated: Severe, Severe Migraine Headaches

Initials: D. H.

Date: 11/12/05

Story: I suffered from these headaches beginning in 1990. Started going to doctors, after doctors for help. Headaches got so bad that I had a standing spot with Christian Hospital for pain shots along with taking other medicine at home. The year 2000 I started coming to Dr. Sultan's office. Tested for allergy issues. Find out I was allergic to so many things that I was putting into my body like eggs, milk, wheat, soy, sugar and yeast. I went on allergy shots and with plenty of counseling along with other things that were done to help my headaches. Now I am pretty free of the migraine headaches by watching my diet and staying away from sugar and other things. I'm thankful to God and Sr. Sultan's office and staff for all their help.
