Story: It seems as though I had been having headaches and a runny nose forever. I had gone to my regular doctor several years ago and he said I had allergies and put me on Claritin D. Story: Melissa was 13 years of age and active in basketball at her junior high school. The school year of 1990-91 as very trying for her because this year her allergies decided to explode. Having undergone treatment with Dr. Sultan, I knew Melissa needed to go sooner or later but this we would do when her symptoms became "troubling". She was absent from school often for upper respiratory problems. It is deceiving to believe "any" doctor can deal with routine problems. Yet this is what we did for several months. Dr. Sultan’s comments: There is nothing better and cheaper than treating the cause through Functional Medicine approach. It is interesting to know that some people are at the top of the ladder while others are in the middle, and some are still starting. Yet there is a vast majority who do not even know that a ladder exists. This can lead you astray for years together and suffer unnecessarily. Look in your family and see how many people have headaches, sinus problems, chronic fatigue, muscle ache, joint pains or not just feeling well or high blood pressure etc. All these problems can be treated successfully upstream like in this case.

Story: Recurrent nasal polyps have been no problem as has sneezing or runny nose. Jock Itch has almost completely disappeared, no gas, belching, or diarrhea. No more fatigue, except when accompanied by extreme activity. I don't wake up at night to urinate except when I have consumed a great deal of liquid.

Dr Sultan’s Comments: The single most common cause for recurrent nasal polyps is allergies. It is again an example of no matter how many times you do the surgery, unless you look for the underlying causes you could be prone to have repeated sinus surgeries. In all sorts of sinus problems, one must investigate allergies as a cause. All allergy testing is not created equal. Traditional method of allergy testing like scratch test gives a limited information. On the other hand, the new method of allergy testing called serial dilution testing is not only more sensitive in picking up more allergies, but it can also determine what the treatment dose is. With that knowledge you can see you can quickly reach the maintenance dose within a few injections and feel the improvement.

Story: After suffering with chronic sinus problems for over 30 years, I felt it necessary to seek medical attention from a different direction.

Following my initial visits to Dr. Sultan at ATC and having an allergy series, I have noticed a tremendous decrease in such symptoms as stuffy nose, sinus infections, psoriasis, gas, coated tongue, heart burn, headaches and muscle spasms.

Dr. Sultan’s comments: It is interesting to note that conditions like psoriasis and many other skin conditions including eczema, acne and acne rosacea can be affectively treated if you look for the underlying causes. Improvement of nasal symptoms is not a big deal as it is one of the easiest things to respond to proper allergy treatment. However, with other skin conditions mentioned above people used topical preparations extensively and may take antibiotics for extended period of time which may lead to gut microbiota change leading to numerous digestive and neurological problems as there are gut-brain connections.

Story: Problems included diarrhea, gas, belching, etc. In the past 6 months, I have been able to stop taking different medications I was on for my stomach. I have little to no gastro problems at all. Dr Sultan’s Comments: This is not uncommon to miss allergies even though you have typical symptoms of common allergies like runny nose, stuffy nose, repeated sinus infections, coughing, wheezing and asthma. The traditional allergy tests like scratch tests are too insensitive. That is why Dr. Herbert Rinkel developed advanced method of allergy testing called serial dilution testing. Here, multiple dilutions of an allergy extract are tested. This makes test most sensitive and helps to find the treatment dose more quickly. With this method you can reach the treatment dose in 4-5 injections. Story: When I came here in September of 1994 I was feeling about as miserable as you can possibly imagine and had been this way for several years. Story: When I first came to Dr. Sultan, I was suffering from continuous sinus infections and wheezing. I also had fungal infections in several toenails and fingernails.
