Success Stories

Condition Treated: Acne (also known as Acne vulgaris)

Initials: B.T.

Story: I had acne since late junior high and visited a local dermatologist to seek a solution. I was put on antibiotics and was on them for over two years. My mom found out about and took me to see Dr. Sultan. I was taken off antibiotics, encouraged to change my diet, and given injections to boost my immune system. In under a year, my acne was virtually gone.

Dr Sultan’s Comments: Acne is typically treated by long-term use of antibiotics which in the long run can cause serious physical and mental ailments by disturbing normal gut biome and increasing yeast in the gut.

Condition Treated: Acne (also known as Acne vulgaris), Fatigue

Initials: L.S.

Story: I suffered from acne since age 11. I had tried every possible over-the-counter medicine and finally went to a dermatologist. He prescribed an antibiotic which made me sick but didn't clear my skin, so he prescribed a stronger one telling me it would make me dizzy. I refused to take it. My mom told me about Dr. Sultan. At my first visit, Dr. Sultan covered my complete history. He explained the reasons a person can have acne. He was looking for the cause, not just prescribing a pill. He asked me about my energy level. I honestly thought I was normal. I thought everyone had to push to get out of bed and I thought everyone would choose to sleep over anything else. Dr. Sultan discovered I had low thyroid. He prescribed Armour Thyroid. I cannot believe I felt so bad for so long and I didn't even know it! I feel amazing. So full of energy and life! Headaches are gone. I can now say I can watch the sunrise instead of sleeping in a dark room. I also now have beautifully clean skin after Dr. Sultan discovered a hormone issue. I am so grateful to him and my mom for telling me about him. Life is Good!

Dr Sultan’s Comments: Many people go through life with low level of energy and miss out a lot. They don’t know what normal level of energy is. Do you have an excellent level of energy? How do you know that you have an excellent level of energy? The answer is that when you get up in the morning, you should have an excellent level of energy and hit the road. Do you? Secondly, you should go throughout the day with good level of energy and not tired. Do you? Lastly, when you go to bed at night, you shouldn’t be tired. Are you? How do you rate yourself? If not, ask us.

Condition Treated: Chronic Fatigue, Low Thyroid, PMS, Upper Respiratory Infections, Diarrhea, Bloating, Neck and Back Pain, Acne, Craving of Sugar and Salt, Yeast Infections

Initials: D.D.

Story: After two years of feeling sick most of the time, I'm happy and relieved to finally find the cause of my ailments. I had visited so many different types of doctors for my various symptoms. Two different dermatologists put me on antibiotics for over five years. I now realize how harmful that was for me. Within two weeks of my candida treatment, the diarrhea subsided, the bloating improved, back and neck pain not as severe, skin clearer, cravings gone, I'm not as fatigued, and I have no more problems with yeast or respiratory infections. I've even lost about 7 pounds from being on the candida diet. It's been two months since I've begun treatment here and my general sense of well-being has dramatically improved. In addition, I used to suffer severe PMS 10-14 days before my period. My last two cycles were very mild with minor cramping the day before. Hallelujah!

Dr Sultan’s Comments: It is an unfortunate consequence that antibiotics used as a standard treatment for acne, cause more serious problems than the original condition. Acne is a result of infection of oil glands (sebaceous glands). The sebaceous glands secret oil to keep the skin moist. When the glands get clogged, it can lead to pimples and cysts. Then these can get infected easily. Antibiotics will just kill the bugs but do nothing to the underlying cause. Remember, medicines are one of the major causes for morbidity and mortality. No matter what, any medicine that treats symptoms, is likely to put you on a slippery slope. 250,000 people die each year from PROPER use of medicines, and millions are made sicker. The message is-treat the cause!

Condition Treated: Acne (also known as Acne vulgaris)

Initials: J.D.

Story: I first came to see Dr. Sultan in March 96 for treatment of acne. The acne was very severe on my face. I had 10-15 large cysts and blackheads and whiteheads. It did not improve much for the first month, but after I started treatment for Candida it started to improve. I also started taking Vitamin A. Now I have only one small cyst, no blackheads, and occasional whiteheads. At the time I started treatment I was having premenstrual problems including gas, bloating, and cramping. These problems have been eliminated. I am happy with my progress.

Dr Sultan’s Comments: Typical treatment of acne involved a parade of topical preparations, oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, and medicines like spironolactone etc. You get the real relief when you address the underlying causes. In her case these happened to be allergy and hormonal issues.

Condition Treated: Acne (also known as Acne vulgaris), Low Thyroid

Initials: A.K.

Story: When I turned 19, I had acne really bad.  I felt like I was back in junior high.  I came to Dr. Sultan and the results from his treatment plan for me were far better and healthier than any dermatologist treatment I had received in the past.  While receiving treatment for acne, Dr. Sultan discovered I had low thyroid.  My hands and feet were so cold all the time and I just thought I had low blood pressure or something.  After receiving thyroid medication, my hands and feet finally felt normal!  I even noticed more energy from the results!  I am very pleased with my acne free face, and lack of coldness/tiredness.  Thanks, Dr. Sultan!

Dr Sultan’s Comments: Most young girls are very conscious of their appearance-rightfully so. They are vulnerable and would do anything from antibiotics to toxic topical creams and toxic medicines like Accutane etc. Side effects from these especially, antibiotics may be lifelong in the form of candida causing chronic fatigue, serious digestive and mental ailments and allergies. Let’s bring a stop to all this and remember three words-treat the cause.

Story: The difference I feel 90% better of the time in all areas, instead of 40% is unbelievable.  I always knew as a child that I didn't feel as well as other children.  As an adult from about 25 on, my health was starting to get worse.  Doctor after doctor said not too much wrong with you, just nerves.  I knew I had problems but couldn't find one to take me serious until now that is.

Dr. Sultan has always taken me seriously and finds the root of the problems.  Thanks to a diet and properly suited medicine, I am hopeful for a new healthy me.

Thank you, Dr. Sultan.

Also, I would like to add his (great) staff makes all those tests easier to take!!

Dr Sultan’s Comments: Look at her list of symptoms.  She has been sick all her life.  One conventional medicine wisdom is that more complaints a patient has more “phony” he is.  The other term for that is hypochondriac.  Dr. Randolph, the father of Environmental Medicine, presented an opposite view and that is that the more complaints a patient has, the sicker he is.  See the difference in thinking!  Such patients often have environmental, nutritional, and hormonal causes.  For them to recover you have to take care of them comprehensively under one umbrella and not thru split medical care.  No amount of medication and no amount of symptomatic treatment can get them better. As a matter of fact, such patients get worse with medication.

Condition Treated: Acne, Inhalant Allergy, Fatigue, Restlessness, Back Pain, Thyroid Disease, Headaches, Panic Attacks, Always Hungry, Weight Gain

Initials: E.R.

Story: It is hard for me to remember how awful things were, now that Dr. Sultan has made me well! All my other doctors could not help me. They wanted to put me on all kinds of medicines for my hypothyroidism, apparent pre-diabetes, acne, osteoporosis, etc., etc.! Dr. Sultan has been my health warrior from the beginning! Best of all when I start to slide off the program, he has so carefully put together for me he picks me up and boosts my good intentions into hyper-drive. His staff are wonderful in the years of my recovery as well. I am never put off for another time and things are remedied right away. Dr. Sultan knows me and what is best for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Dr Sultan’s Comments: This is another example.  Environmental allergies are no longer limited to inhalant allergies like dust, mold, and pollens causing runny nose and stuffy nose. You can get a wide range of chronic illnesses including fatigue, headaches, and cerebral symptoms in the form of panic attacks, restlessness, and many other neurological symptoms.  The key to recovery is finding the cause and treating the cause and consistently staying with the program.

Condition Treated: Acne, Candida, Thyroid, PMS, Chronic Fatigue, Upper Respiratory Infections, Diarrhea, Bloating, Neck and Back Pain, Craving of Sugar and Salt, Yeast Infections

Story: After two years of feeling sick most of the time, I'm happy and relieved to finally find the cause of my ailments.  I had visited so many different types of doctors for my various symptoms.  Two different dermatologists put me on antibiotics for over five years.  I now realize how harmful that was for me.

Dr Sultan’s Comments: You will repeatedly see this theme “Two different dermatologists put me on antibiotics for over five years. “Antibiotics really mess up your gut biome (good bacteria in gut). This spirals down into numerous health issues as we have already alluded. Don’t use antibiotics for relatively minor issues and certainly not for years

Condition Treated: Acne, Endometriosis, Headaches, Bloating, Depression, Tiredness

Initials: J.K.

Story: Headaches, bloating, depression, acne, and tiredness for the past 15 to 20 years. Diagnosed with endometriosis at age 15. Mense's started at age 15 and were associated with a lot of menstrual cramping. In younger years had sore throats, tonsillitis, and took antibiotics.

Between the ages of 20-30: Menstrual cramping continued. Fatigue got worse. Was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Now is diagnosed with ovarian cysts.

Between the ages of 30-38: Vaginal yeast infections, fatigue, menstrual cramping, continue. Had an ectopic pregnancy. Diagnosed with another ovarian cyst and had ovary removed. Had total of 4 miscarriages. Currently taking Prozac for depression. Taking Synthroid .1 mg twice a day.

The test results showed sensitivity to Candida which was treated with Nystatin and desensitization. Showed signs of hypothyroidism so switched from synthetic thyroid and changed to natural thyroid, fatigue had improved and felt a lot better and got pregnant and carried the baby to term for the first time. Patient was seen for the first time on 7-11-95 and in May of 1996 she had a healthy baby girl.

Dr Sultan’s Comments: No matter how many problems you have, it is never too late to treat the cause! Medicines are not the answer. They will invariably make you sicker. In difficult cases, you certainly need functional medicine approach. Unless you look holistically and look beyond specialty boundaries, you cannot even come close to the cause.

Condition Treated: Acne, Weight Loss, Severe Fatigue, Severe Abdominal Pain, & Irritability

Initials: K.F.

Story: When I first came to Dr. Sultan, I was severely allergic / sensitive to almost all foods.  My immune system was in a hyper-reactive state, and I was eating only 5 different vegetables and nothing else, because if I did, I would become extremely uncomfortable and fatigued. So, by the time I visited Dr. Sultan on June 5, 2006, I weighed 81 lbs. (my normal weight is 110-115, I'm very petite) and I literally could not climb a flight of stairs because I was so fatigued and malnourished.  I also had bad acne, yeast infections, extreme mood swings, and irritability, and my menstrual cycle had ceased.  I was in very rough shape and fearing for my life.

Dr. Sultan immediately administered nutritional and amino acid IV's  (10 of each) recognized that I was suffering from adrenal insufficiency and prescribed Cortef (20 mg p/day).  I tested positive for yeast/molds and was put on extract shots (1 per week) and had me tested and diagnosed osteoporosis and osteopenia, which shocked me because I had danced for 20 years until I was about 26 years old (I'm now 36).

I now weigh 106.8 lbs (over 25 lbs more!) and my energy has increased dramatically!  I am able to tolerate many foods now, my skin has cleared, and I have a healthy glow about me!  When I began, I looked like a "walking ghost".  I exercise regularly, walk a lot, and have no problem climbing several flights of stairs.  In fact, I plan to begin dance classes next week.  I also have much better control over my moods now that I know to eat more frequently (diagnosed with hypoglycemia) and my menstrual cycle vegan again.  On September 5th, I never thought I would be happy about menstruating, but I'm glad it happened, with very slight PMS symptoms. And no more abdominal pain!

Needless to say, I no longer fear for my life.  I feel as though Dr. Sultan has brought me back from the dead, and I am very grateful for his help!  I had been to over 21 doctors prior to Dr. Sultan and was very distressed at how little they knew about my condition (IBS) and nutrition.  Dr. Sultan is the first doctor that I feel safe with, that I am in good hands.  I cannot express adequately how grateful I am, I've been given my life back!

Anyone who is skeptical or uncertain about his practice should look no further!  He will most certainly put you on the path to good health, as long as you are willing to make the necessary adjustment.  And isn't good health what you want?  To get your life back?  What do you have to lose?

Dr Sultan’s Comments: many people not only suffer but die from lack of appreciation of role of environmental and nutritional factors. How sad! We should never, never, give-up and explore these factors in chronic illness. See how rewarding it can be! Do you have any loved ones or people you care about the most and going thru rough time? Encourage them to explore the route of Environmental Medicine/functional medicine.

Condition Treated: Acne, Hypothyroidism, Low energy, cystic acne, severe constipation, fatigue

Initials: G.B.

StoryAt the beginning I was prescribed Levothyroxine for my hypothyroidism. After about a year of taking this medication, my symptoms remain the same. I had zero energy, cystic acne, severe constipation, and constantly tired. Dr. Sultan ended up introducing me to NatureThroid instead of the synthetic thyroid medication I was previously taking. After a couple of months my symptoms all improved tremendously. Some slight diet changes were made but overall using the NatureThroid made a world of difference.

Dr Sultan’s Comments:  Here is a classic example where a natural hormone was much better than the synthetic hormone. This patient was taking synthetic thyroid with minimum results.  Just changing to natural thyroid made all the difference.  If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with low thyroid and is taking synthetic thyroid in the form of levothyroxine and Synthroid, there is a good chance they still have symptoms of low thyroid in the form of fatigue, morning fatigue, getting tired by the end of day, feeling excessively cold, cold hands, cold feet, etc.  The key is switching to natural thyroid like Armour Thyroid or NatureThroid.
