What The Doctor Believes

A Personal Note From Dr. Sultan

We all know that a patient’s beliefs can have tremendous impact on outcomes. In an article, Larry Dossey, MD, raised an interesting question:

“What is the effect of the physician’s belief system on a patient’s outcome?”

It can have more impact than the patient's own convictions. It is because a physician is a guide who points you in a direction that may turn out to be the right or wrong based on his beliefs.

Therefore, I want to share my views

We are all well familiar with the traditional approach that treats your symptoms with drugs. Drugs, simply feed the cause. Remember, a headache is not an aspirin-deficiency state. As an environmental physician, this is my most important belief: Diseases do not happen from lack of drugs in the body. Therefore, for a better relief, you must find the cause.

I believe that:

  1. Most people can get well by treating the cause. Read these patients who opted to treat the cause .
  2. Symptoms are warning signals that something is wrong. Covering them with drugs on a long-term basis is likely to make you sicker.
  3. The Sick Get Sicker and the Rich Get Richer by covering up the symptoms with drugs. Then, we wonder why medical care has become so expensive!
  4. With the current knowledge we have at hand, it is possible, in most instances, to treat the cause and get people well.
  5. This usually means that by treating the cause, you can get rid of your symptoms, get rid of your medicines and eventually get rid of the physician . This is how you save money and reclaim your health! If your current treatment is not doing that, you probably need to change direction
  6. Proof: Success stories are inspirational. Read them. Talk to patients who have been coming to us for a while and see how they are doing. You will have enough time to interact with them in our office
  7. What is the cause? It is usually in the patient’s environment , i.e., things you inhale, foods you eat and substances you encounter. Other causes are nutritional, toxic, and endocrine in nature.

That is my core belief. What is yours?

Treat the symptoms or treat the cause – you decide.
