Conditions Description

Unusual menstrual cycles starting sometime after age 35 and often associated with a decline in female hormones. This often results in accelerated aging.

Common Symptoms

  • Unusual menstruation cycles that are shorter or farther apart, shorter or longer in duration, or heaver or lighter in blood loss
  • Hot flashes, night sweats or vaginal dryness (usually resulting from decreased estrogen)
  • PMS-like symptoms (sometimes caused by decreased progesterone)
  • Reduced libido, muscle strength, or reduced muscle firmness (sometimes caused by a decline in testosterone)

Underlying Causes

  • The condition is age-related, but the can be accelerated by other conditions like hypothyroidism, yeast overgrowth, or deficiencies in minerals, vitamins and/or essential fatty acids

Traditional Approach

  • Identify and treat hormones deficiencies like estradiol, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA
  • Treatment has evolved recently from synthetic hormones to natural or bio-identical hormones
