Absence of menses for 12 consecutive months. Condition is considered premature if onset is prior to age 40.

Common Symptoms

  • Absence of menses
  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness, itching, dyspareunia
  • Reduced libido and mood changes including irritability

Underlying Causes

  • It is a natural event
  • Premature menopause may result from surgery, radiation of the pelvis, or chemotherapy

Traditional Approach

  • Synthetic estrogen like Premarin, Esterified Eestrogens
  • Synthetic progestogen like Provera

  • Natural estrogen replacement with estradiol such as Vivelle dot, or a combination of estradiol/estriol as biest or combination of estradio, estriol, and estrone as triestrogen
