Hypoglycemia is a common contributing factor in many chronic illnesses. It often manifests itself in the form of headaches, depression, irritability, fatigue, nervousness, shakiness, and food cravings that so often accompany many chronic illnesses. Diabetes and hypoglycemia are not two distinct problems. These are just two facets of the same disease process. Initially, in response to the environmental stress including excessive carbohydrate intake, the pancreas puts out too much insulin causing low blood sugar, and later it may get exhausted leading to diabetes. The other associated problems caused by high insulin levels include hypertension, coronary artery disease, obesity and stroke.
