Hyperactivity

Back

These are terms used to describe behavior problems usually associated with children. Some studies estimate between 10% and 30% of school children are hyperactive. Behavior such as severe mood swings, aggressive, hostile, overactive behavior, sadness, depression, poor performance in school may be caused by environmental factors. Adverse reactions to foods, nutritional deficiencies, chemical pollutants, inhaled allergens, yeast toxins, repeated exposure to antibiotics, as well as the individual's genetic background and psychological stresses may be the cause of behavior problems. In addition, the hyperactive child can cause great emotional strain on family relationships. Other symptoms include headaches, fatigue, drowsiness, inability to concentrate or a short attention span, and irritability. Physical symptoms may appear as muscle and joint aches, urinary, digestive or respiratory problems, recurrent ear infections or constant colds, even pale color or dark circles under the eyes. Prescription drugs can alleviate some symptoms; however, another approach is to make nutritional, environmental and "lifestyle" changes. Food allergies must be identified and treated; environmental pollutants need to be removed or limited; even exercise and physical activity may be helpful. Drugs are not the answer for a child ... are they?

Every effort should be made to ensure that there are absolutely no hindrances to learning if we want our children to achieve the maximum learning potential that they are capable of achieving.

It is important to realize that the most common obstacles to learning and appropriate behavior are not psychological nor lack of parenting skills but physical.  These success stories demonstrate exactly this point repeatedly:

Hyperactivity, pneumonia, slow growth pattern, short attention span, and difficulties in school.

Hyperactive, Depressed to Point of Suicide

Bloating, constipation, diarrhea

“Sleeping Beauty”, (Sleeping all the times), hyperactivity, inability to stay awake, drastic mood swings, behavior problems, anxiety. (The child is a seven year old very attractive young boy but found sleeping all the time in the office. It was hard to awaken him. He reminded of the story “The Sleeping Beauty”)

Hyperactivity, Impulsiveness, Speech Delay
